On Facebook a friend linked to an article about New Chicago, California, a town near San Jose that was promoted by real estate developers in the 1890, but never actually built:
The question remains to this day whether there were ever any real plans to build a town or if it was all a big hoax. According to Curtis, "It's impossible to determine."However, there was also another New Chicago, CA, farther inland, a former mining town, now a ghost town.
New Chicago was a mining camp of the 1850s, built up near the Gover Mine. It had about twenty houses."New Chicago Road" still exists, and still intersects with "Chicago Mine Road" in Sutter Creek, CA.
But despite these loads
of "Chicago" roads,
there's no sign of State Street
that great street.
