They wanted us out of the Middle East
But no one thought it through.
Now they're flooded with refugees.
Whatever will they do?
I'm not saying it's an insoluble problem. But with the state of the European economies, it's going to be chaotic, for a while, trying to absorb all these poor people.

The common defense to the Iraq fiasco was always, "Well the world is a better place without Saddam."
Does that logic still hold?
I would say not. Not at the moment. At the moment it looks like the U.S. should have let Saddam & co. stay in control of Iraq.
There was a stretch of time, post-surge, late in W's presidency, early in O's presidency, when we appeared to have forced some peace and quiet on the place - at a great cost to us and to them. At that time it was at least plausible to imagine that the U.S. had had a beneficial effect on the place.
